2017 Lt. Governor’s Travel & Tourism Summits a Success!

OTIA was thrilled to host three amazing Lt. Governor’s Travel & Tourism Summits this year in Guymon, Sulphur, and Tahlequah. Outstanding speakers presented on a variety of topics, and Lt. Governor Todd Lamb once again joined us for the festivities. Below is a look back at all events, and stay tuned for next year's Travel & Tourism dates!


Monday, October 9
The first of three 2017 Lt. Governor’s Travel & Tourism Summits, hosted by the City of Guymon, was held on October 9 at the Guymon Public Library & Arts Center. OTIA members were treated to a day of educational workshops by Kin Thompson of Northeastern State University, who spoke on “Leveraging Tourism Partnerships” (download slides here) and “Community Engagement” (also downloadable). The workshops were followed by a Town Hall Meeting with Lt. Governor Todd Lamb, and then a networking reception. Click here to see pictures from the day.
 

Monday, October 23
The second Lt. Governor’s Travel & Tourism Summits, hosted by Chickasaw Country, was held on October 23 at the Chickasaw Retreat & Conference Center. OTIA members were treated to a day of educational workshops by social media expert Sheila Scarborough of Tourism Currents, who had great tips on creating specific, focused social content (download presentation here) and how to spend social media marketing dollars (download here). The workshops were followed by a Town Hall Meeting with Lt. Governor Todd Lamb, and then a networking reception. Click here to see pictures from the day.
 

Monday, October 30
The Tahlequah Area Convention & Visitors Bureau hosted the third and final Lt. Governor’s Travel & Tourism Summit on October 30 at the Tahlequah Event Center. Tina Gilliland, CAE presented Halloween-themed educational workshops aimed at "Marketing on a Budget," in which she taught attendees how to attract visitors on little to no budget and build partnerships and cooperative efforts to leverage marketing dollars (presentation can be downloaded). The workshops were followed by a Town Hall Meeting with Lt. Governor Todd Lamb, and then a networking reception. Click here to see pictures from the day.



What's Happening

The RedBud Awards are open to all Oklahoma tourism entities. Advertising and Marketing agencies are eligible to submit entries but must submit on behalf of their client, and not as an entry for the agency. Entries should represent tourism and/or travel opportunities in Oklahoma. The timeline during which entries must have been produced, published, broadcast, or held must be between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023. Entries must be submitted online by 11:59 PM on April 22nd. No extension will be made to this deadline due to judging schedules.

The Hospitality Day at the Capitol and the "A Tasteful Affair" Legislative Reception events are members-only events. Online registration closes by the end of the day on Friday, April 12. If you would still like to register after Friday, please call Jorie Gorman at the ORA Office at 405-942-8181 ext. 224 and we will register you over the phone.
